Three approaches for tutoring children with Learning Disability and ADHD
There are several different approaches for tutoring children with learning disability and ADHD available. Parents are often confused about what option is best for their child. There are three approaches that you as parents can take:
Tutoring children with Learning Disability and ADHD – Private tutor
Generally, a private tutor or special educator is the best option for teaching a child with learning and attention issues. The most significant advantage is that private tuition is one-on-one teaching. A private tutor can tailor lessons according to your child’s special needs. Private tutors with experience teaching children with learning and thinking differences are hard to find, especially for higher grades where they need specialisation in specific subjects. Private tutors may be expensive, too, depending on their qualifications.
Tutoring children with Learning Disability and ADHD – Multidisciplinary Institutions
There are many multidisciplinary institutes where they have a team of qualified and experienced professionals already in place, which gives them an edge over private tutors. The disadvantage is that you may not be able to choose the tutor your child works with, and your child may not be comfortable with other students around them.
Tutoring children with Learning Disability and ADHD – Online Tuition
The most significant advantage of online tuition is that the scheduling can be very flexible and may help reduce anxiety in children with social skills issues. Online sessions also give you and your child complete control of the physical environment of the student. On the other hand, online tuition may be distracting for children as it limits the ability to build a personal relationship between the student and teacher.
Explain to your child the need for a tutor and what a tutor’s role will be in their learning. Let them be a part of deciding the type of approach you will take and talk about what you hope to accomplish by hiring a tutor. They will be more open to accepting help; if they are a part of the process.
